Liveblogging Brazil v Portugal

June 25, 2010 — by Sean9

In what promises to be the most entertaining match of Group of Death play, the 5-time cup winners take on their mother nation in what is essentially a showcase (as both squads are sure for the next round, unless of course Portugal lose and Ivory Coast win by 9 goals).

Lots of Portuguese being spit about the field, but we expect a pretty and clean game as Brazil are on the verge of finding their flair, while Portugal have quality peppered around the field, plus superstar gay icon Christiano Ronaldo.

We’ll cover the afternoon games as well, but for now, roubaram-me o relógio! Oops, we mean, aqui vamos nós!

Having now watched 2 1/4 games from Portugal, I’m sorry but I just don’t see the greatness that has been bestowed on C. Ronaldo. For my money Messi’s runs without the ball create better space for teammates and with the ball so much more dangerous creating superior opportunities. I get that Ronaldo is taller/stronger, and many prefer that size relative to Messi, but Messi has better vision, soccer IQ, and understanding how to make the team better in the attack. C. Ronaldo seems the ultimate lone wolf style striker

yes but messi lacks c. ronaldo’s “fabulousness” or hair product …

Ronaldo has that Beckham quality to him – he looks good in front of the camera. Messi is by FAR the better player, but is not as great a brand.

Not the best game, but going to the http://www.playbeautifulnyc.com/ spot made it a worthwhile morning. Took some pics, talked to some Brazilian Nike reps up from Sao Paulo (who helped me and Joyce with our non-existent Portuguese)..I think CultFootball should liveblog from there for Round of 16, Mon or Tues morning or aft.

i didn’t catch the game, but i totally agree about the analysis here on messi vs ronaldo….ronaldo is a pretty boy who once he gets hit/taken down a few times, becomes non-existent….he is not a team player at all. his team works hard for him, not the other way around. messi is all around an amazing player who works for the team AND scores goals as well as creates 1st and 2nd plays to set them up. i like his natural hair anyway! better for running your hands through! and you never seem to see sweat running from ronaldo’s head! i guess it’s cuz the product allows it to coagulate up there! 😉 i’m all for messi! down with ronaldo!
