Tribute MVH: Benny Feilhaber (Long Live TEAM USA)

June 28, 2010 — by Christine2

Benny Feilhaber (January 19, 1985): born in Rio de Janeiro but grew up in Scarsdale, NY before moving to CA and attending Northwood High School in Irvine, where he was a “standout midfielder on the school’s soccer team.” After graduating in 2003 he played for UCLA, where he became a mainstay in the Bruins’ midfield.

This video really speaks for itself. BONUS MVH points for being (kinda) from my hometown – Irvine, CA. MAN I wish there were more USA games to watch. Damn it.

And the Brazil v. Portugal Most Valuable Hottie is… Anyone but Ronaldo

June 25, 2010 — by Christine1

Wow! What a painfully boring game. To be fair, there were some great passes and fancy footwork and even a few nice upshort shots, but overall: weva.

I was also sad to see Kaka on the sidelines. He’s always fun to watch and I don’t like seeing him in his ‘street’ clothes. When he’s not in his kit, he looks kinda… girly. Sorry, Kaka, just keeping it real!

Ok so back to the matter at hand: Most Valuable Hottie. UGH – it was kinda hard to pick one, what with CRISTIANO RONALDO hogging screentime for most of the game. (Yes, he’s attractive… But the vanity! Arrogance! Perfectly shaped brows! BARF). But after careful consideration, I’ve decided that this match’s MOST VALUABLE HOTTIE award goes to…

Nilmar Honorato da Silva! Nilmar (born 14 July 1984 in Bandeirantes, Paraná), is a Brazilian forward, currently playing for Villareal. He’s a cutie. Didn’t do much during this match (though he did have 8 ‘won balls’ – and I think that’s good) – but he’s just so cute! And kinda little, which I like. K that’s it for now. Can’t wait for Spain v. Chile… HOLA GUAPOS!

MVHs: France / S. Africa & Uruguay / Mexico

June 22, 2010 — by Christine

Early MVH predictions: Luis Suarez (Uruguay) the 23-year-old striker who scored goal #1 in this very riveting Uruguay / Mexico match up. He made it look so easy, didn’t he? And that million dollar smile (okay and overbite)! Magnifico!

And on the S. Africa / France side: gotta go with my man Katlego Mphela. He’s a striker for the Mamelodi Sundowns when he’s not playing for his home country South Africa, and he was responsible for that all-too-easy second goal against France at the end of the first half. Go Bafana Bafana!

MVH: Chile vs. Switzerland

June 21, 2010 — by Christine4

Chile vs. Switzerland: SNOOZE. Besides that rando-red card, there hasn’t been much to report on in this match-up IMHO… except, of course, this game’s clear pick for Most Valuable Hottie: the young-and-banging Carlos Emilio Carmona Tello, Chile’s 23-year-old midfielder who was the touch-leader of the first half of the game (I think I made that up, but it means he had the most touches of the ball – 43)! Carlos was his country’s youngest player at the 2005 U-20 World Cup in Holland and captained some other teams I think. I can’t find that much about him on the internet, but don’t you just want to drown in those bedroom eyes? La Swoon!

MVH Preview (Most Valuable Hottie): England v Algeria

June 18, 2010 — by Christine

The England vs. Algeria game hasn’t started yet, but goddamnit, I just can’t wait. Here is a sneak peek at some potential Most Valuable Hotties to watch in Match 23:

Gareth Barry (England)

Gareth Barry (born 23 February 1981) is an English midfielder who plays for Manchester City in the English Premier League.

Why He’s MVH Worthy:

He’s not some playboy, model-banging footie star. No Cannavaro-ing for Barry: he married his childhood sweetheart Louise in 2007, with whom he has sired two adorable footie kids: a son, Oscar, and a daughter, Freya. <3 a Family Man!
– Look at those hands.. my god they’re huge. Just sayin!

Rafik Halliche (Algeria)

Rafik Halliche
(born September 2, 1986 in Algiers) is an Algerian footballer who currently plays for C.D. Nacional in the Portuguese first division on loan from S.L. Benfica, as a central defender.

Why he’s MVH Worthy: He looks good in those headphones. No but real talk: the venerable BleacherReport says that Halliche ‘has a knack for the ball and is also a quality offensive player from the defensive back’ ( – and we LOVE it when they take it from the defensive back). BleacherReport also reports that he is known a a ‘tough guy’ among his teammates, though evidently he has a softer side, too (see pic above right) – a balance that can’t be beat.

Good luck, Rafik and Gareth! Butter up the crumpets and couscous – I’m ready to get F(IFA)ED!

MVH Preview (Most Valuable Hottie): USA vs. Slovenia

June 18, 2010 — by Christine1

Hey guys! I’m new here. I don’t know too much about football – but I do know about hotties, and football happens to be full of them. So here’s my pick for MVH (Most Valuable Hottie) of this otherwise disappointing game:

Zlatan Ljubijankič

Zlatan Ljubijankič (born 15 December 1983 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian striker currently playing for the Belgian Jupiler Pro League club K.A.A. Gent and the Slovenian national team. In his earlier hottie years, he  played for NK Domžale, winning the much coveted ‘journalist’s Slovenian Player of the Year-Award in the 2006-07 season’ (yeah, Zlatan, work that!)

Zlatan is the standout babe of the game, and also happens to have scored a beautiful second goal for ‘Little Slovenia’ (is it cool to say that? NYT’s doing it so guess so!). The combination of his impeccable bone structure and rugged, Eastern European-y good looks (that masculine brow! those deepset eyes! that commanding, slightly crooked schnauz!) all atop a lean striker’s build… perfection. Congratulations, Zlatan, on being the sexiest man of Match 22!
